Legal Practice:
Ms. Acken focuses her practice on labor and employment matters, and has experience represented both private and public clients (primarily employers) in litigation and administrative actions involving a variety of issues, including disability discrimination claims, wage and hour matters, restrictive covenants and executive compensation matters, and traditional labor claims. Ms. Acken previously acted as in-house counsel for a large, international EPC contractor and currently acts as external general counsel for several small to mid-size employers, drafting and reviewing contracts, policies, and providing training. Finally, Ms. Acken has substantial experience acting as an objective third-party investigator conducting workplace investigations that involve allegations of misconduct by all levels of employees, from front line to executives.
Ms. Acken also maintains a small practice representing adoptive parents in adoption matters and associated severance proceedings.
Community Service:
Ms. Acken is active in the community, particularly with causes involving child welfare, Autism awareness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Ms. Acken served on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central and Northern Arizona from 2018 – 2024, including serving on the executive committee from 2021 – 2024.
Educational Background:
Ms. Acken received a Bachelor’s degree in both Political Science and History from Indiana University in 1999.
Ms. Acken received her juris doctorate from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 2002.
