David Tatkin

Of Counsel

Attorney David Tatkin brings more than thirty years of experience to the firm, with a practice focusing on estate planning, tax planning, estate administration and business law. He is Of Counsel at Radix Law. Prior to joining the firm, David worked primarily in the field of partnership taxation, handling a variety of tax-related issues for syndications and investors.  After the Tax Reform Act of 1986 virtually eliminated the tax benefits of such syndications, David turned his attention to estate planning, with an emphasis on estate and gift taxation.  He counsels clients on their estate planning needs, prepares trusts, wills and other estate documents, handles probate matters and conducts trust and estate administrations.  His clients range from single and married clients with relatively small estates to blended families and high net worth clients.  He counsels clients on business and family succession issues, and assists clients with their charitable giving needs by structuring donations to maximize estate, gift and income tax savings.  David has devised and implemented many gifting programs designed to reduce or eliminate estate taxes through the use of several types of entities and specialized discounts.  Through these techniques, he has saved his clients millions of dollars in estate taxes.  His background in tax law and estate planning allow David to provide highly individualized service to each of his clients, helping each meet their estate planning goals in a cost-efficient and effective manner.

David received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the California State University at Dominguez Hills.  He graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law, and holds a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University.  He is a founding member of the Estate Planning and Probate committee for the Arizona State Bar, and is a certified specialist in Estate Planning and Probate by the State Bar of California.  He has been a speaker at various estate-planning seminars throughout Arizona.

Prior to attending law school, David had a career in the music business as a performer, writer, arranger and producer for such record labels as Capital Records, Warner Brothers, Elektra, and Bang Records.  His work in the music industry began at age 14 and lasted until he was 28.  David is married to Carrie Tatkin, a partner at Radix Law, with whom he has two grown children.  In his spare time, he enjoys photography.
